Responsible for maintaining the campgrounds and ensuring all areas are safe for campers and staff. Duties include stocking sanitary supplies and ensuring cleanliness throughout the camp. Maintaining the appearance of the grounds, buildings, and structures. Ensuring the safety and functionality of camp facilities. Quickly addressing and solving mechanical issues as they arise. Using tools and operating large equipment confidently and safely.
Experience with lawn mowers, tractors, chainsaws, electrical systems, plumbing, and pool maintenance is considered a valuable asset.

Position Title: Property Manager
Period of Employment: May 1 – November 1, 2026
(duration may vary depending on seasonal rentals and the maintenance of the grounds.)

Rideau Hill Camp is a sleep away summer camp which operates within the Eastern Ontario Outaouais Regional Council (EOORC) of the United Church of Canada.

This position will be responsible for:
To prepare and maintain the camp in an environmentally responsible manner, ensuring the health and safety of all campers, staff, and renters while meeting and/or exceeding provincial requirements.
Consistently modeling the responsibilities of the role in alignment with the Camp’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
Duties include:
- General oversight of the physical property of the camp, accountable to Camp Council, Executive Director, and Camp Manager.
- Health and Safety: All potential safety hazards should be brought to the Camp Manager’s/Council’s Representative’s attention immediately and corrective measures taken. If campers or staff are found to be in an unsafe area or activity it should be brought to their attention immediately and they should be directed to leave the area until the danger is corrected. If campers or staff are found to be taking part in hazardous or unsafe activities (e.g., climbing on roofs, playing on the waterfront, etc.), corrective action should be taken and their cabin activity leader informed. It is every staff member’s responsibility to ensure the safety of the campers, fellow staff and visitors.
- Ensure that all camp buildings, cabins, freezers, stoves, refrigerators, floors, benches, etc. are cleaned and/or painted before the rental/camp season begins, with necessary repairs being made.
- Shall ensure that the water system is turned on and all of the necessary connections are made, and that the system is operational before the rental/camp season begins and uphold Ministry of Health regulations concerning drinking water.
- See that the grounds are kept safe, clean and tidy at all times with lawns to be mowed as necessary.
- Identify potential major problems that surface and report to the Camp Manager and/or Property Director.
- Keep staff informed of repairs and problem areas.
- The Property Manager shall work with the Camp Manager to set up a daily inspection of the camp with the Camp Manager or the camp health person to insure a safe and healthy camp environment
- The Property Manager will oversee the set up of a daily cleaning schedule for the washrooms for the Cleaning Crew.
- The Property Manager will have the daily and/or oversee the responsibility for sweeping the walls and floors and picking up the garbage in the toilets. The Property Manager will ensure that toilet paper is in place and will wash the toilets or seats as necessary.
- The Property Manager shall wash down and disinfect washrooms once weekly or more often as necessary.
- It is the responsibility of the Property Manager to ensure that the buildings housing sanitary facilities are clean, in good repair, have tanks pumped as necessary, well-ventilated and free of insects, rodents and vermin.
- The Property Manager shall move the garbage, recycling, and compost to a designated area for pick-up and arrange for it to be taken to the landfill site as necessary.
- Make sure that all equipment is cared for and repaired, as necessary.
- Maintain a clean and organized garage and work spaces.
- Work in a co-operative manner with the entire staff.
- Ensure that the pool is operational at a time designated by the Camp Council Representative, and shall monitor performance of pool staff to ensure the pool stays operational and health standards are met.
- Maintain an inventory of consumable supplies including paper goods, chemicals, cleaning compounds, pool supplies, small hardware and other maintenance items and that they are safely stored in a manner according to health and safety practices..
- The Property Manager will order supplies through the Camp Manager, Executive Director or Camp Council Representative within the budgeted allotment and manage inventory. Accurate records and receipts must be maintained and submitted to finance.
