National Lifeguard Service (NLS) is a required qualification.  Instructor certification is considered an asset. Additional qualifications such as teaching experience, pool care and operations, pool/waterfront safety, canoeing experience, and lifeguarding are also an asset.

Position Title: Lifeguard

Period of Employment: June 28 – August 23, 2026

Rideau Hill Camp is a sleep away summer camp which operates within the Easter Ontario Outaouais Regional Council (EOORC) of the United Church of Canada.

This position will be responsible for:

Planning, organizing, documenting, and guiding both campers and staff through fun and safe water games and free swim, while also collaborating with other program coordinators.

National Lifeguard Service (NLS), CPR, Standard First Aid are required qualifications.  

Duties include:

  • Participate in all training and orientation events. 
  • Follow work schedules and rest periods to ensure equal rotation of staff. 
  • Be on time, prepared, and focused at all times at the pool/waterfront.
  • Serve as a Lifeguard at the pool or waterfront or in any other camp capacity as designated by the Head Lifeguard or Camp Manager. 
  • Enforce established pool regulations. 
  • Supervise regular operation of all pool equipment. Report problems to the head lifeguard. 
  • Assist with the regular cleaning of the pool area. Vacuum or brush down bottom of pool daily. Skim surface daily or as needed. Hose down the sidewalk daily. Backwash system. 
  • Assist with maintenance and checking of the chemical balance of the pool. 
  • Work to ensure health and safety standards at the pool. 
  • In case of accidents, notify the Head Lifeguard, Health Person, Camp Manager or designated person in charge and complete an Incident Report Form. 
  • Discuss with the head lifeguard minor difficulties with the pool and possible solutions. 
  • Participate in all aspects of the camp program as required. 
  • Carry out any other responsibilities as designated by the Camp Manager. 
  • Sleep in a cabin as needed to assist camp staff. 
  • Be part of the rotation for night watch and day supervision rotations and where needed. 
  • Be prepared and available to participate with other staff in all camp programs. 
  • Working with Chaplain to assist in the interpretation of the Christian faith to the campers through living and learning experiences. 
  • Ensure all staff and campers using the pool first consult with the Head Lifeguard to ensure appropriate safety measures are in place.
  • Participate in all required training and orientation sessions.
 
All staff members are required to provide proof of completion and/or current validity of the following prior to June 1, 2026:

Level 2 (enhanced) Police records check (within the last 9 months of commencement of employment)
