Position Title: Kitchen Assistant

This position will be responsible for:

Ensuring that all campers, staff, and volunteers are fed throughout their time at camp. While the task is a team effort, the Head Cook is responsible for coordinating and overseeing all related duties. Consistently modeling the responsibilities of the role in alignment with the Camp’s Mission, Vision, and Values.

Duties include:

  • Assist with food planning, preparation, cooking, serving, cleanup, and other duties as assigned by the Head Cook.
  • Help receive and store food deliveries.
  • Ensure health and safety standards are met in the kitchen at all times, as required by the Ministry of Health, by regularly cleaning utensils, preparation/serving ware, dishes, appliances (toaster, dishwasher), counters, sinks, and cupboards. Sweep and mop kitchen and dining room floors as directed.
  • Maintain a neat and clean personal appearance at all times, ensuring hair is appropriately covered and wear closed-toe and closed-heel footwear at all times.
  • Collaborate with the cook to prepare food for cookouts, snacks, and out-tripping canoe trips.
  • Participate in other aspects of camp life as time and schedule allow, which may include staying in a cabin to support other camp staff. Take part in the night watch and day supervision rotations as needed.
  • Work with other staff members as required, or assist with any other duties assigned by the Camp Director or designated person in charge.
  • Be available to share areas of interest or specialization with staff and campers on theme days or other special days.
  • Working with Chaplain to assist in the interpretation of the Christian faith to the campers through living and learning experiences. 
  • Engage in other camp activities as time and schedule permit, and guide individual campers in participating in group, unit, and all-camp activities.
  • Participate in all required training and orientation sessions.
