Position Title: Cleaning Crew

Rideau Hill Camp is a sleep away summer camp which operates within the Eastern Ontario Outaouais Regional Council (EOORC) of the United Church of Canada.

This position will be responsible for:

Being responsible for two key areas of the camp: the kitchen and the property ensuring cleanliness and upkeep in both areas, while reporting to the Head Cook and Property Manager. Consistently modeling the responsibilities of the role in alignment with the Camp’s Mission, Vision, and Values.

Kitchen duties include:

  • Operate the dishwasher to clean plates, glasses, cups, silverware, and cooking utensils. Prepare the dishwasher for use, ensuring the water temperature meets the requirements outlined by Health Unit directives.
  • Manually wash any items that are not dishwasher-safe.
  • Check dishes for cleanliness before putting them away.
  • Inspect and clean dish racks, trays, and other equipment used in the washing process.
  • Clean and sanitize the dishwasher regularly.
  • Monitor dishwasher detergent and rinse aid levels, refilling as necessary.
  • Troubleshoot minor issues with the dishwasher and report major malfunctions to Head Cook and Property Manager.
  • Refill dishwashing supplies like soap, sponges, and cloths.
  • Ensure that there are always clean towels and aprons available for use.
  • Sort and organize clean dishes and utensils by type (e.g., plates, cups, cutlery).
  • Stack dishes in the correct storage areas after they’ve been washed and sanitized.
  • Sweep and mop the dishwashing area and surrounding kitchen spaces.
  • Wipe down counters, sinks, and shelves in the dishwashing area.
  • Empty garbage bins and ensure that trash is properly disposed of.
  • Separate recyclable items from trash when necessary.
  • Follow proper food safety and sanitation protocols.
  • Ensure that the dishwasher and dishwashing area are kept clean and sanitized according to health regulations.
  • Assist kitchen staff by cleaning dishes quickly during meal preparation and service times if needed
  • Help in the kitchen with additional cleaning or minor prep tasks when needed.

Property duties include:

  • Sanitize toilet bowls, seats, and lids.
  • Wipe down and disinfect toilet handles and other touch points.
  • Ensure that toilet paper, hand sanitizer, and other necessary supplies are stocked and available.
  • Refill soap dispensers and paper towel holders as needed.
  • Regularly inspect the toilet facilities for damage or maintenance issues (e.g., clogged plumbing, broken doors).
  • Report any damage or necessary repairs to the property manager promptly.

Additional duties:

  • Participate in other aspects of camp life as time and schedule allow, which may include staying in a cabin to support other camp staff. Take part in the night watch and day supervision rotations as needed.
  • Work with other staff members as required, or assist with any other duties assigned by the Camp Director or designated person in charge.
  • Be available to share areas of interest or specialization with staff and campers on theme days or other special days.
  • Collaborate with the Chaplain to help interpret the Christian faith to campers through experiential learning and activities.
  • Engage in other camp activities as time and schedule permit, and guide individual campers in participating in group, unit, and all-camp activities.
