Position Title: Camp Manager
Period of Employment: June 1 – August 30, 2026 (Hybrid model during June)
RHC Background:
Rideau Hill Camp is a sleep away summer camp which operates within the Eastern Ontario Outaouais Regional Council (EOORC) of the United Church of Canada.

This position will be responsible for:
Under the direction of the Executive Director, planning, organizing, documenting, and overseeing/evaluating all operations of the camp. Ensuring safety of campers and staff. Act as liaison between parents, campers and staff. Assist in training, guiding, and supporting program coordinators, activity leaders, kitchen and property staff, as well as, Chaplain and Health Staff volunteers in regards to creating a safe environment for diverse camper needs.
Consistently modeling the responsibilities of the role in alignment with the Camp’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
Duties include:
Staff Recruitment and Training:
- Assist in interviewing staff. Delivering training to summer staff: activity leaders, program coordinators, kitchen staff, property staff and volunteer staff.
- Ensure staff understand camp policies, safety procedures, and child care best practices.
- Lead team-building activities to foster a cohesive work environment.
Program Development and Planning:
- Oversee all camp activities, including outdoor recreation, arts and crafts, sports, and group games.
- Create staff rotation schedules to ensure campers move through the day in an organized and safe manner, while also providing adequate breaks for all staff to keep them rested and focused.
- Ensure activities align with the camp’s mission and goals.
- Develop themed weeks or special events to engage campers.
Supervision of Camp Operations:
- Oversee daily camp operations, ensuring smooth functioning of all activities.
- Ensure camper safety and supervise the overall wellbeing of all participants.
- Address any behavioral issues or conflicts among campers and staff.
- Maintain confidential records for all reports, including incident, behavior, health and safety, and staff disciplinary records, and ensure that relevant details are communicated to the Executive Director.
Budget and Resource Management:
- Manage the camp’s budget, ensuring funds are allocated appropriately for supplies, program coordinators, and activities.
- Maintain an inventory of camp supplies and equipment, ensuring everything is stocked and in good condition.
Communication:
- Maintain regular contact with the Executive Director of daily camp operations.
- Collecting weekly plans from Program Coordinators and ensuring required supplies are available.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for campers, parents, and staff.
- Work with the Chaplain to assist in the delivery of faith to the campers through living and learning experiences.
- Regularly update parents on camper progress and camp activities through newsletters or emails.
- Collaborate with vendors or external partners to enhance the campers’ experiences.
- Address conflicts between campers or staff, providing solutions that align with camp values.
- Maintain a calm and professional demeanor when resolving issues.
- Promote professionalism among all staff members by consistently demonstrating it in daily interactions and actions.
Health and Safety Oversight:
- Ensure the camp complies with local health and safety regulations.
- Implement emergency protocols for medical situations, accidents, or natural disasters.
- Offer staff opportunities throughout the summer for in-service emergency training, followed by feedback sessions to ensure tasks are completed correctly and that everyone feels confident in their roles.
- Oversee the health and wellbeing of campers, collaborating closely with the Health Staff to ensure proper medication administration and with the Head Cook to manage dietary restrictions.
- Daily/weekly inspections of all property and communicating any issue with the Property Manager for immediate repair and/or maintenance.
Camper Experience and Engagement:
- Create a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for all campers.
- Facilitate team-building and leadership opportunities for older campers.
- Organize closing ceremonies or events to celebrate the end of camp.
Maintenance and Facility Management:
- Oversee the maintenance and cleanliness of camp grounds, cabins, bathrooms, and common areas.
- Ensure that all facilities are safe, functional, and well-maintained throughout the camp season.
- Daily/weekly inspections of all property and communicating any issue with the Property Manager for immediate repair and/or maintenance.
Compliance with Regulations:
- Ensure the camp adheres to all Ontario Camping Association and United Church of Canada guidelines and regulations related to childcare, outdoor activities, and safety standards.
- Adhere to confidentiality policy at all times.
- Collaborate with the Chaplain to help interpret the Christian faith to campers through experiential learning and activities.
Evaluation and Feedback:
- Collect feedback from staff, campers, and parents to assess the effectiveness of camp programs.
- Make improvements to the camp experience for future sessions.
- Carry out daily staff meetings where camp and staff issues can be addressed.
- Conduct staff evaluations: mid self evaluation to be done during Family Camp and final self and manager evaluation during Senior Camp.
- Provide evaluations by the end of Leader in Training week for each camper. Coordinate opportunities for successful candidates to return as a volunteer staff. Supervise and guide while in this unique role.
- Submit a final summer report that summarizes the entire camp season’s program, highlighting its strengths, areas for improvement, and recommendations for future years. Collect and include the program coordinators reports. Submission due no later than September 5, 2026.
