Strong leadership skills are essential for planning, organizing, documenting, and guiding both campers and staff in various areas, including Recreation and Nature, Arts and Crafts, Swimming, and Canoeing/Waterfront. Each area of focus requires specific program qualifications; please refer to the details of each position for further information.

Canoe/Waterfront Coordinator

Position Title: Canoe/Waterfront Coordinator

This position will be responsible for:
Planning, organizing, documenting, and guiding both campers and staff through safe and educational experiences in canoes and along the waterfront, while also collaborating with other program coordinators. Overseeing the care and maintenance of the canoes, dock and all other related equipment, while working closely with other program coordinators. Consistently modeling the responsibilities of the role in alignment with the Camp’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
ORCKA training and/or NLS certification is an asset.
Duties include:
- Develop and coordinate the canoe program at camp, adhering to guidelines provided by the Ontario Recreational Canoe Association and their manuals.
- Ensure proper care and maintenance of all water-related equipment, including canoes, paddles, and life jackets.
- Inspect waterfront and Canoe Shed daily to remove any unsafe and damaged items and report this to the Camp Manager.
- Ensure the Canoe Shed is kept clear of obstructions and maintain a clear pathway to, from, and within the shed at all times.
- Supervise all canoe activities to ensure safety and adherence to camp protocols.
- Teach canoeing skills and safety procedures in accordance with posted waterfront and canoe rules.
- Evaluate camper and staff’s canoeing abilities, document, and communicate this information to staff members to ensure appropriate safety measures are in place.
- Collaborate with the Head Lifeguard to provide swimming reports that support the implementation of proper safety measures during canoeing activities.
- Keep detailed records of trips to Baxter (off-site), including safety measures implemented, the organization of canoes, and the attendance of campers and staff members including signed waivers from registration day.
- Plan day trips, ensuring maximum camper and staff participation, and communicate food requirements to kitchen staff in advance.
- Develop alternative activities for campers in the event of unsuitable weather conditions for canoeing.
- Patrol the waterfront daily and report any unsafe conditions to the camp manager.
- In the case of accidents, notify the Health Person, Camp Manager or designated person in charge and completely fill in “Incident Report forms”.
- Order supplies through the Camp Manager within the budgeted allotment and manage inventory.
- Participate in all required training and orientation sessions.
- Stay in a cabin as needed to assist other camp staff.
- Participate in the rotation for night watch and day supervision as required.
- Engage in all aspects of the camp program as necessary.
- Perform additional responsibilities as designated by the camp manager.
- Collaborate with the Chaplain to help interpret the Christian faith to campers through experiential learning and activities.
- Ensure all staff and campers using canoes or participating in waterfront activities first consult with the Canoe Director to ensure appropriate safety measures are in place.
- Submit written plans to the Camp Manager one week prior to each camp to ensure all necessary equipment is available and the schedule is organized.
- Complete and submit a final written report to the Council, in conjunction with the Manager’s report, including an evaluation of the program, inventory lists, and recommendations for future improvements. All submissions due no later than September 5, 2026.
Head Lifeguard/Pool Coordinator

This position will be responsible for:
Planning, organizing, documenting, and leading both campers and staff in enjoyable and safe water games and free swim activities. Overseeing the care and maintenance of the pool and related equipment, while working closely with other program coordinators. Consistently modeling the responsibilities of the role in alignment with the Camp’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
Must have National Lifeguard Service (NLS), CPR, Standard First Aid. Instructor certification is an asset.
Duties include:
- Organizing work schedules and rest periods to ensure an equal rotation of staff.
- Evaluate ALL campers’ swimming abilities, document, and communicate this information to staff members to ensure appropriate safety measures are in place.
- Maintain detailed records of swimmer assessments for each camp, including the criteria used to evaluate their abilities, the results of the assessment, and the overall outcomes.
- Acting as a lifeguard at the pool, waterfront, or during canoe trips.
- Briefing program staff and activity leaders on pool and waterfront regulations and procedures during leadership orientation and pre-camp.
- Participate in all required training and orientation sessions.
- Enforcing established pool and waterfront regulations, collaborating with the Camp Manager to make necessary updates.
- Explaining rules to all camper groups prior to their first swim
- Potentially teaching canoe skills and safety practices.
- Assisting with the planning of canoe day trips, ensuring maximum camper participation.
- Organizing alternative activities for campers if weather conditions are unsuitable for water activities.
- Supervising the regular operation of all pool and waterfront equipment and promptly reporting any issues to the property manager or property committee.
- Keeping a daily log of pool conditions, equipment operation, and chemical levels.
- Overseeing the regular cleaning of pool areas, including vacuuming or brushing the pool bottom daily, skimming the surface as needed, hosing down sidewalks daily, and backwashing filters as necessary.
- Maintaining a deck clear of obstructions of any safety risks at all times (water toys, life jackets, pool noodles, etc)
- Oversee the regular chemical balancing of the pool and ensure the water level is properly maintained as per the regulations of local health units.
- Ensuring health and safety at the pool and waterfront, and maintaining well-stocked first aid kits.
- In the case of accidents, notify the Health Person, Camp Manager or designated person in charge and completely fill in “Incident Report forms”.
- Participate in all aspects of the camp program as required.
- Carry out any other responsibilities as designated by the Camp Manager.
- Sleep in a cabin as needed to assist camp staff.
- Be part of the rotation for night watch and day supervision rotations and where needed.
- Be prepared and available to participate with other staff in all camp programs.
- Working with Chaplain to assist in the interpretation of the Christian faith to the campers through living and learning experiences.
- Ensure all staff and campers using the pool first consult with the Head Lifeguard to ensure appropriate safety measures are in place.
- Submit written plans to the Camp Manager one week prior to each camp to ensure all necessary equipment is available and the schedule is organized.
- Completing and submitting a final written report to the Council with the Director’s report. This report consists of an evaluation of the program, all inventories, and any recommendations for the future. All submissions due no later than September 5, 2026.
Arts & Crafts Coordinator

Overseeing the care and maintenance of the rec hall, craft cupboard, and all other related equipment, while working closely with other program coordinators. Consistently modeling the responsibilities of the role in alignment with the Camp’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
Duties include:
- Plan and coordinate Arts & Crafts for daily rotations.
- Incorporate visual arts, dance, drama, and music into the camp theme to create engaging and diverse activities.
- Work closely with other Coordinators to design and implement integrated arts and crafts activities.
- Care for and maintain all equipment required for these programs.
- Supervise and delegate responsibilities for all activities.
- Ensure a reasonably safe activity environment.
- Monitor and enforce adherence to posted rules by staff and campers.
- Order supplies through the Camp Manager within the budgeted allotment and manage inventory.
- Participate in all required training and orientation sessions.
- Participate in all aspects of the camp program as needed.
- Sleep in a cabin as required to support camp staff.
- Take part in the rotation for night watch and day supervision duties as needed.
- Fulfill any additional responsibilities assigned by the Camp Manager.
- Working with Chaplain to assist in the interpretation of the Christian faith to the campers through living and learning experiences.
- Ensure all staff and campers using craft supplies or participating in art activities first consult with the Art & Craft Coordinator to ensure appropriate safety measures are in place.
- Completing and submitting a final written report to the Council with the Camp Manager’s report. This report consists of an evaluation of the program, all inventories, and any recommendations for the future. All submissions due no later than September 5, 2026.

- Utilize knowledge of the environment and a deep respect for the land to teach campers and staff interactive activities that emphasize the importance of taking from the land responsibly and giving back to it.
- Care for and maintain all equipment required for these programs.
- Supervise and delegate responsibilities for all activities.
- Ensure a reasonably safe activity environment.
- Monitor and enforce adherence to posted rules by staff and campers.
- Develop alternative activities for campers in the event of unsuitable weather.

- Completing and submitting a final written report to the Council with the Manager’s report. This report consists of an evaluation of the program, all inventories, and any recommendations for the future. All submissions due no later than September 5, 2026.
